Lower Course Overview

Although the Lower Nine is the shortest, the water features running down to the peaceful nature reserve in the valley give this parkland style course a unique character. The large undulating greens are deceptive and the ability of the golfer to judge both line and pace are seriously put to the test.

With a length of less than 500 metres and downhill all the way to the green, one can mistakenly think that an easy Par is on the cards. A large wetland has to be carried and two large beech trees split the fairway in the line of the drive. If a long drive successfully finds the fairway, the downhill aspect of the hole makes it possible for an accurate second shot to reach the green.

With bunkers right and left, the best option is to aim left and allow the lie of the land to guide the ball onto the middle of the fairway. Watch out for the wetland and bunkers on the right of the green.

A short Par 4 that rewards accuracy rather than length both for your drive and approach to the green. When driving it is best to avoid the large depression with challenging rough on the left of the fairway. The green perched right on the edge of the glen is narrow, undulating and protected by bunkers.

A medium to long Par 3 with a large sloping green. There is plenty of room on and at the back of the green but accurate chipping and putting are required to secure a par.

A strategic short Par 4. The safe drive is down the left leaving an approach over the lake. The more challenging drive is a long carry over the lake leaving a short pitch or chip to the green.

Accuracy off the tee is essential with bunkers on the left and a lake on the right. The approach must avoid bunkers to the left and the reed bed along the right side of the fairway.

The bunkers on the left are out of reach for all but the longest hitters, who may select a fairway wood or attempt to carry the bunkers on the right. The large split level green is well protected, thus an accurate approach is essential.

An uphill hole back to the clubhouse designed to be a fairly easy Par 5. Drive left if you wish to avoid the large Beech trees on the right for your approach shot. You have a choice for your second shot, attempt to carry the cross bunkers and maybe reach the green in two or lay up short and leave a blind third shot to the long raised green.
