Middle Course Overview
Generally regarded as the toughest challenge, the Middle Nine incorporates a variety of natural water features and mature trees. Beautiful lakes, ponds and streams abound, club selection is crucial and accuracy both off the tee and with the approach shots is required to master this wonderfully undulating terrain.

Middle 1st
Aim down the right side and let the lie of the land guide your ball to the centre of the fairway. You are welcome to attempt to carry the bunker on the left, but although the reward looks like a shorter shot to the green, the large Ash tree behind the bunkers may well come into play. The approach is to a large green protected by bunkers right and left.

Middle 2nd
This is the first of four holes on the Middle Nine that require a carry over the stream and valley that meander down the western section of the course. The long green is protected by bunkers, however it is open at the front and a good straight shot will be rewarded.

Middle 3rd
This long Par 5 requires a drive back across the valley avoiding the Ash tree on the right. The green is long, narrow and well protected. If you do attempt to reach it aim down the left over the approach bunker. There is ample space for those who choose to lay up short of the green.

Middle 4th
There are two short Par 4s on the Middle Nine but both are well protected by water and neither is a guaranteed Par. The 4th is a short downhill Par 4 where accuracy rather than length is rewarded. From the tee there are three options, straight down the narrow fairway, short of the pond on the left, or over the bunkers on the right.

Middle 5th
A long Par 4 with an uphill drive that must avoid the fairway bunkers and allow for the dogleg to the left. This leaves an approach to a long narrow green which falls from right to left.

Middle 6th
The second of the short but challenging Par 4s on the Middle Nine. The golfer must chose how much of the lake to carry - underestimate length, direction or wind conditions and a watery or sandy outcome is almost guaranteed! A courageous and accurate approach is required to carry the stream and avoid the bunkers at the back of the narrow green.

Middle 7th
Celebrating your par on the 6th might be premature as all of the remaining holes on the Middle Nine have challenges to negotiate. The 'new' 7th is a magnificent Par 3, often in to the prevailing breeze, with a carry over the valley and a pond to a magnificent undulating green. Right off the tee will see your ball head towards the water all down the right hand side, or go left your ball may find sand. The above images will be updated in due course.

Middle 8th
The drive back across the valley is the easy part of this long Par 5. A good drive is required to ensure a clear view for the second shot which must negotiate lakes both left and right. The long green is protected by a lake running along the entire right hand edge. Most approaches are from the right and must clear the retaining wall along the side of the lake.

Middle 9th
A long uphill Par 4 for men or Par 5 for ladies with the drive over or alongside the pond. A long approach is required to clear the bunkers 40 metres short of the elevated green. Depending on wind conditions it may be preferable to lay up short and rely on your short game for your par.
